Lessons

Why piano?
Embarking on the journey of piano lessons can be an incredibly rewarding endeavor for several reasons. Firstly, immersing oneself in the study of piano music opens up a world of creativity and self-expression. Whether playing beloved classics or composing original pieces, the piano becomes a canvas for personal storytelling and emotional exploration. Secondly, the discipline and focus required to progress in piano playing instills valuable life skills such as patience, perseverance, and problem-solving. As one navigates the intricacies of technique and interpretation, they develop a resilient mindset that extends beyond the practice room. Lastly, the joy of mastering a new piece or experiencing a breakthrough in musical understanding is indescribable. The sense of accomplishment and fulfillment derived from making beautiful music is a constant source of inspiration and motivation on the journey of piano learning.
Curriculum and Approach
My preferred piano methods for beginning students include the Faber & Faber Piano Adventure series, and the Succeeding at the Piano series. Stylistic emphasis on classical piano, sacred music, and contemporary music, are a part of the instruction. Beginning jazz concepts may be learned as well. Students will learn scales, and other exercises at the discretion of the teacher to enhance strength and technique.
Students will learn to read music, to play expressively with good technique, and have opportunities to perform in two recitals. Participation in at least one recital per year is required. Participation in at least one group class per year also provides a lighthearted, fun way to learn music alongside other students.
